Background

The Wave founder Nick Hounsfield was committed to using 100% renewable energy to power his facility and provide on-site electric vehicle (EV) charging facilities. Installing on-site solar PV modules would enable the facility to generate electricity. However, it would require installing a battery system to ensure that the facility had sufficient power when the sun was not shining. The RSK Renewables team worked alongside battery supplier Invinity to make Nick’s vision a reality.

Challenges and solutions

A primary concern was the risk of flooding as the location was on a floodplain. The land required extensive surveys and creative thinking, such as raising equipment by 1 m and using a ballasted system rather than the traditional piling method, which resulted in all vital equipment being raised above any potential flood line.

The impact

RSK Renewables worked closely with the client throughout the project and overcame the challenges in design and implementation. The team maintained environmental aspects and key client requirements to complete the project.
